Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency was established by Sarkeesian. The website hosts videos which include commentary on gender representations in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian as well as an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit website that focuses on gender representation in popular cultural narratives is founded and is directed by Sarkeesian. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her main focus. But, she also explores the issue of targeted harassment against women online and for other groups that have been left out. Sarkeesian, who holds an MA in Social and Political Thought from York University, is a sought after public speakers. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen XOXO festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. She was fascinated by gender issues and feminism from a very young stage of her life. In 2009, while in university she launched the Feminist Frequency website. The ambitious lady planned to launch a web series on gender-based representations in video games. She found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. Her determination was not slowed from the attack, and in fact it only reinforced her drive to become a media critic and feminist. Her notable contributions to the field of feminists are recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and is the founder of Feminist Frequency.
